A Win by the Second Varsity Four Highlights Buffalo's Effort at the Knecht Cup

CAMDEN, NJ – A win by the Second Varsity Four highlighted the day for the University at Buffalo rowing team as it competed at the Knecht Cup in Camden, NJ over the weekend.
Suvita Viswanathan, Francisca Strange-Sepulveda, Rebecca Rayter, Bethany Cross and Kylie Lewis led the Second Varsity Four to a time of 8:10.84 – defeated second place Kansas by nearly nine seconds and third place Villanova by 16 seconds.
The Bulls nearly swept the Varsity Four event as they finished a close second behind Massachusetts. UB's boat of Kara Buchheit, Megan Bayley, Sarah Gallagher, Elizabeth Murphy and Jacklyn Postulka had a time of 7:49.96, just three seconds behind UMass. Buffalo raced past a Duke squad who finished third with a time of 7:53.41.
Buffalo's Second Varsity Eight boat of Alison Sheehan, Danielle Carlino, Kaitlyn Koscielniak, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Sydney Gilchrist, Brittany Davidson, Sam Palma, Barbara Prescott and Kelsey Tretter finished fourth in the Grand Final, but threatened to the win the race the whole way. The Bulls registered a time of 6:59.17. Wisconsin won the race with a time of 6:57.58.
The Lightweight Eight boat of Taylor Drozenski, Gina Giammichele, Emily Marshall, Cornelia Willis, Anna Hirt, Julia Hahn, Megan Klyczek, Hannah Blackington and Briana Reinecke also qualified for the finals and finished fifth with a time of 7:15.51. Wisconsin won the race with a time of 6:57.65.
Finally, the Novice Eight boat of Alyssa Porter, Veronika Kwinecki, Gabrielle Ormond, Nicole Dutra, Brittany Enekes, Erin McMullen, Hayley Franco, Jacqueline Bobo and Jessica Ashbaugh finished fifth in the Petit Final with a time of 7:45.15.
The Bulls will be back at it next weekend when the team splits up for races in Ann Arbor, MI as well as Boston.
