ITHACA, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing team competed in races hosted by Cornell University on Saturday. In a full day of races the Bulls competed against Rhode Island in the morning session.
In a head-to-head match up with Rhode Island, the Bulls fared well in the Varsity Four races, but struggled in the Varsity Eight races.
In the Varsity Four race, the Bulls finished with a time of 8:14.7 – six seconds ahead of Rhode Island. The boat consisted of Kara Buchheit, Megan Bayley, Elizabeth Murphy, Jacklyn Postulka and Francisca Strange-Sepulveda.
The Second Varsity Four also won its race with a time of 8:35.8 - well ahead of Rhode Island which finished with a time of 8:52.5.

The Second Varsity Eight boat of Alison Sheehan, Kaitlyn Koscielniak, Hannah Miller-Selzer, Sam Palma, Sarah Gallagher, Deborah Garth, Barbara Prescott, Sydney Gilchrist and Kelsey Tretter fared better, finishing with a time of 7:23.9. Rhode Island won the race with a time of 7:18.4.
The Lightweight boat competed in the Third Varsity Eight race and finished with a time of 8:16.0. Made up of Taylor Drozenski, Gina Giammichele, Emily Marshall, Cornelia Willis, Anna Hirt, Julia Hahn, Megan Klyczek, Hannah Blackington and Briana Reinecke finished third behind Duke (7:55.7) and Rhode Island (8:04.7).
"It was a disappointing day. We didn't seem to be up for the opportunity as we should have been," Head Coach Rudy Wieler said. "It's an expensive loss because it means that we won't be invited to the Eastern Sprints."
The Bulls will have a couple of weeks to regroup before heading to Philadelphia for the Dad Vails. Buffalo will be looking to win its unprecedented fourth straight Sietz Trophy as overall points champion.
"We've got a young team and we are still learning, but we will have four solid crews at the Dad Vails," Wieler said.
