BUFFALO, NY - Thanks to a red-hot shooting effort for the team's two games in the week, senior guard Zach Filzen was named the Mid-American Conference's East Division Player of the Week on Monday. It is the first weekly conference honor of his career.
Filzen averaged 25 points in the Bulls two games on the week. The senior guard scored 24 points, including six three-pointers in Buffalo's convincing 84-55 win at Dayton on Wednesday. He helped the Bulls hand the Flyers their largest home loss in 16 years and give the Bulls their largest road victory since 1987. Against St. Bonaventure on Saturday, Filzen scored a season-high 26 points and added five rebounds and an assist. UB's sharpshooter was red hot from beyond the arc, knocking down 6-of-8 three-point attempts. For the week, Filzen was 12-of-19 from downtown.
Thanks in part to his big week, Filzen now leads the team with 17 points per game and is currently hitting 46.2 percent of his three point attempts. He also is averaging 3.5 rebounds per game.
The team will close out its Big Four schedule Wednesday as it travels to Niagara to face the Purple Eagles.
