
Kevin Smith Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

BUFFALO, NY - Redshirt senior Kevin Smith went a perfect 3-0 this past Sunday and picked up major bonus points for the Bulls, helping the team to a 2-1 record in dual-meet action. For his efforts, the Mexico, NY native was honored as the Mid-American Conference's Male Scholar Athlete of the Week.
The Bulls picked up wins over Gardner-Webb and Niagara County Community College, while dropping its match to Bloomsburg on Sunday. Wrestling at 141 pounds, Smith had two pins and a major decision to lead the way for UB. His first pin came early in the second period against Gardner-Webb and his second came while the first period was still going on. Against Bloomsburg, Smith defeated his opponent 10-2 for a major decision. He is now 8-1 in duals and 15-3 overall this season, and with the trio of wins he moved into fourth place on the career dual meet wins list.
Smith has posted a 3.631 GPA while pursuing a doctorate in UB's physical therapy program. The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
