
Zach Filzen Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – Zach Filzen of the University at Buffalo men's basketball team was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week on Wednesday, the conference announced.
A communication major with a 3.2 grade point average, Filzen averaged 13.5 points, four rebounds and 3.5 assists in a pair of wins over Niagara and Youngstown State last week. He continued his torrid shooting from beyond the arc as he knocked down four three-pointers against Niagara and three more against Youngstown State. He currently leads the nation in three-pointers made, averaging 3.9 makes per game.
Filzen ranks second on the team in scoring, averaging 16.1 points per game. He is also averaging 3.6 rebounds and 1.9 assists per contest.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
