BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's basketball head coach Reggie Witherspoon has announced the signing of Stan Wier to a National Letter of Intent. The 6-3, 215-lb. guard will join the Bulls beginning in the 2012-13 season.
A native of East Aurora, NY, Wier will play his senior season at East Aurora High School after playing his sophomore year at Nichols School and his junior year at La Lumiere School, a prep school in Indiana.
"Stan is an excellent student and we are excited to have him join our program," Witherspoon said. "He is someone who has worked really hard to develop his game and get himself to the point where he can play at this level. He has worked hard both mentally and physically to play at this level. He is excited about our program."
Wier will be reunited with former Nichols teammate Will Regan. Both were key members of Nichols 2010 State Championship team. Wier was Nichols' second-leading scorer, averaging 16.5 points per game and hitting 68 three-pointers. He was named to the All-Tournament team at the Federation Tournament. Wier hit six three-pointers and had 31 points in Nichols' 85-66 rout of Long Island Lutheran in the semifinals. He was named All-Western New York Second Team in 2010.
Wier spent last season at La Lumiere Prep where he averaged 15 points and seven rebounds per game playing against some of the nation's top talent.
He decided to return home to play his senior season at East Aurora so he could play with his younger brother, Cam. Wier also spent his freshman year at East Aurora and earned All-Western New York Honorable Mention honors.
Buffalo tips off the 2011-12 season on Friday night. The Bulls host Saint Peter's at Alumni Arena at 7:00 pm.
