BUFFALO, NY - The Buffalo men's basketball team will return home to open its Big Four season Tuesday evening, welcoming in the Canisius Golden Griffins at 7 pm at Alumni Arena. The team looks to stay undefeated at home and get back to its winning ways after a tough road loss this past weekend at Princeton.
In its second straight game against an Ivy League foe, the Bulls (2-1) came out flat against Princeton and trailed 37-16 at halftime thanks to 6-30 (20 percent) shooting from the floor. The team picked up the pace in the second half and outscored the Tigers 37-24, but three players fouling out and the first-half deficit proved to be too much to overcome. Javon McCrea led all scorers with 19 points, and Zach Filzen was the only other UB player in double figures, with 11.
The Bulls have been solid on defense through the first three games of the season, allowing an average of 61.7 points while averaging 64.3. The defense will need to be on point in order to contain Canisius' dynamic early season output on offense. Three Griffs average 12 points or more this season, led by junior Harold Washington's 21 points per game, and as a team it has averaged 76.7 points per game. The reason why it holds a 1-2 record can be credited to its inability to hold off the opponent's offense. The team has allowed 86.7 points per game and are returning to New York after a recent trip out West to face UNLV. The Runnin' Rebs ran all over Canisius and claimed a 95-70 win. Tonight will be the final of the team's four-game road trip to start the 2011-12 season.
Tickets for tonight's game are available at the UB ticket office or by clicking here.
Fans that cannot make it to Alumni Arena can tune into Josh Whetzel and Pete Lonergan's call of the game on 1230 AM WECK.
