BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo forward Javon McCrea has been named one of college basketball's Top 100 players by CBSSports.com. The sophomore big man is ranked 91st on the list of the nation's top players and is the highest ranked of any Mid-American Conference player.
"McCrea could be on his way to being the next dominant mid-major player," Matt Norlander of CBSSports.com said. "If he doesn't make a huge leap this year, it will come next year. [McCrea] was the fifth-most effective offensive rebounder in the country last season."
McCrea was named the MAC Freshman of the Year as well as All-MAC Honorable Mention last season after averaging 11.8 points and 6.5 rebounds per game. The Newark, NY native shot 63.1 percent from the field, which would have led the nation if he had made four more field goals on the season.
Over the summer he was invited to the USA Basketball Men's U19 World Championship Team training camp. He was named a finalist for the team before being the final player cut.
Ohio's D.J. Cooper is ranked 93rd and is the only other MAC player to appear on the list.
