Bulls Receive Votes In National Coaches Poll

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo rowing program has burst on to the national stage picking up votes in the Collegiate Rowing Coaches Association/USRowing national poll for the second straight week. Following their showing last week, UB is receiving three votes.
The Bulls are coming off a weekend where they faced Notre Dame, who is 20th in the poll, and Indiana, who is also receiving votes. However, the big test comes this weekend when UB will race against the top crew in the country, Yale. In addition to Yale, the Bulls will also face seventh-ranked Michigan State and Syracuse and Gonzaga, who are both receiving votes in the national poll. Cornell, who will host the race, is also a strong program from the Ivy League.
"It is exciting that our program is being recognized amongst the best in the nation," said head coach Rudy Wieler. "We have been improving each and every day and we deliberately made this extremely difficult schedule that will benefit our team as we take the next step."
Unlike years past when the poll was based on the efforts of just the Varsity Eight, this year the poll is based on the combined efforts of the Varsity Eight, Second Varsity Eight and Varsity Four boats. The top 16 crews in the country will be invited to the NCAA Championships in Gold River, CA from May 28-29.
