Bulls Downed by Tennessee Tech, 13-7

COOKEVILLE, TN - The University at Buffalo baseball team fell in
the series finale against Tennessee Tech, 13-7, on Sunday afternoon
at Bush Stadium. The Bulls' loss allowed the Golden Eagles to
take the four-game non-conference series, 3-1.
Trailing 4-0 after two innings, the Bulls managed to pull within
one in the top of the third. Freshman Alex Baldock scored the
Bulls' first pair of runs off a two-RBI triple to cut the
Golden Eagles' lead in half, 4-2. With Baldock at third,
senior Brad Agustin drove in a run off a groundout to first base to
pull the Bulls within one.
With the Golden Eagles holding a one-run advantage, the Bulls would
take the lead with a pair of runs. Buffalo tied the contest at 4-4
off a sacrifice fly to center field by senior Adam Skonieczki. The
Bulls managed to take a 5-4 lead at the end of the inning as
freshman Tom Murphy belted an RBI base hit to left field, driving
in senior Brad Cochrane from third.
In the bottom of the fourth, the Golden Eagles recaptured the
lead, 6-5, off a pair of runs including a throwing error, one of
four errors by the Bulls on the day.
Facing a 9-5 deficit in the top of the eighth, the Bulls managed to
score a pair of runs off back-to-back RBI doubles by junior David Neff and senior Rob Lawler.
Holding a 9-7 lead, the Golden Eagles added four insurance runs in
the bottom of the eighth to seal the victory.
Starter Josh Edwards (0-1) recorded the loss in 4.0 innings of work
with a pair of strikeouts.
Baldock, Cochrane, Lawler and Murphy each posted a pair of hits and
each scored a run. Lawler and Murphy each recorded an RBI as
Baldock drove in a pair of runs.
The Bulls (6-7) will hit the road for one last non-conference
four-game series on March 19-21 versus Butler. The series will open
on Friday, March 19 with the first pitch set for 3:00 pm.
