
Mulkey Named MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – Byron Mulkey, senior point guard on the University at Buffalo men's basketball team, was named the Mid-American Conference Scholar Athlete of the Week on Friday the conference announced.
Mulkey, a business management major with a 3.37 grade point average, averaged 17 points, six assists, three steals and three rebounds in UB's two games at Canisius and Indiana State last week. Mulkey scored a career-high 23 points in helping the Bulls to a 17-point victory over local rival Canisius, the largest UB margin of victory in the all-time series. Mulkey was 12-of-12 on his free throw attempts for the week draining eight against Canisius and four against Indiana State.
For the season, the Wheatfield, NY native is averaging 13.2 points, 4.2 rebounds and 5.5 assists per game. He leads the nation in steals, averaging 4.3 per game.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
