Bulls Pack the Monthly MAC Rankings

BUFFALO, NY - After six Buffalo wrestlers earned top-four rankings in the preseason, the team added one more as the Mid American Conference announced its December coaches rankings. As a team, Buffalo has maintained its third-place ranking in the poll.
Jimmy Hamel and Desi Green lead the team with number one ranks at 184 and 149 pounds, respectively. Hamel currently has a 14-8 record and recently won his 100 career match. Green has the team's best win percentage so far with a 16-1 record, his only loss coming against Oklahoma.
Juniors Kevin Smith (133 pounds) and John-Martin Cannon(165) each were ranked second in their weight divisions, with Cannon tied with Green for the second-most wins on the team (with 16). The team's overall wins leader for the season made his debut in the rankings this month, with sophomore Mark Lewandowski earning a number four rank at 157 pounds. The Depew, NY native has come into his own so far, placing in four different tournaments and winning 17 matches already with the season not even halfway through.
Another breakout wrestler for Buffalo has been Andrew Schutt, who comes in at number three at 141 pounds with a 13-7 record. The final Bull in the conference top four is senior Brian Sheehan at 174 pounds.
The group has a chance to improve their rankings significantly this Sunday as they go with the team to the Reno Tournament of Champions in Reno, Nevada. The tournament will feature many of the top-ranked grapplers in the nation and some of the top teams as well. The all-day event will begin at 9 am.
