BUFFALO, NY - Redshirt sophomores Brett Correll and Mark Lewandowski joined the laundry list of Buffalo wrestlers in the national spotlight Wednesday morning, as both were included in WrestlingReport.com's Top 33 individual rankings.
Correll, who has an 8-5 overall record so far this season, has placed in all three tournaments the Bulls have participated in this season, most recently with second place showing at the Body Bar Invitational. WrestlingReport puts the heavyweight at number 30 overall, and the Shelby Township, MI native has his sights set on steadily climbing up the ranks.
Lewandowski has been one of the standout wrestlers for Buffalo so far this season, holding team leads in overall wins (11) along with a 2-0 record in the team's two dual meets so far, including a win against Oklahoma. A local product from Depew, NY, Lewandowski has second-place finishes at both the UB Open and the Body Bar Invite so far this season. He comes in as the number 32 wrestler at 157 in the country and his solid results to this point in the season suggests that he certainly won't end there.
Four other Buffalo grapplers were recognized by WrestlingReport.com. Junior Kevin Smith came in at 26 at 133 pounds, junior John-Martin Cannon was ranked 22 at 165, senior Jimmy Hamel was ranked 26 at 184 pounds and junior Desi Green earned the highest rank on the team, number eight overall at 149 pounds.
The team will take a week off to prepare for the Penn State Open, held December 5 for an all-day event.
