Bulls Travel to Boston for the Season Opener
The University at Buffalo wrestling team will kick off its 2010-11 season for an early-season dual meet against Boston University of the Colonial Athletic Association. This dual meet will mark the beginning of a strenuous 15-day stretch for the team to open the season.
The Terriers have three returning national qualifiers from a team that finished seventh in the conference championships in 2010 and put together a 4-14-1 record in dual meets. This matchup will be the third all-time between the two squads, with the Bulls owning a 1-0-1 record in the series, including a 34-9 win in the most recent match in the 1997-98 season.
Big Name Schools Converge at the UB Open
There will be little turnaround before the team hosts the annual UB Open Sunday morning at 10. The tournament will not feature team scoring and will include many great teams from all over the region. Teams that will be sending either wrestlers or full squads include:
Bloomsburg, Maryland, American International University, Notre Dame College (Ohio), Lehigh, Hofstra, Gannon, Pittsburgh, Niagara County Community College, Jamestown Community College, Edinboro, Ohio State, Rutgers, Mercyhurst, Cortland, Brockport, Kent State and Tompkins Cortland Community College.
The Open will be a star-studded affair, with the day featuring four teams ranked 21st or better in the NWCA/NCAA Division I top 25 and another four D-I squads who are receiving votes in the preseason rankings.
