BUFFALO, NY – Cameron Downing (Tulsa, OK/Memorial) and Javon McCrea (Newark, NY/Newark) have each signed a National Letter of Intent to attend the University at Buffalo and participate on the men's basketball team, according to head coach Reggie Witherspoon.
Downing is a 6-9, 240-lb. forward from powerhouse Memorial High School in Tulsa, OK where he plays for head coach Eric Savage. Downing averaged 15 points, 9.4 rebounds and 2.3 blocked shots while shooting a sizzling 73 percent from the field as a junior last year. He helped lead the Chargers to a 22-4 record and the 6A state title last season.
"Cameron is from an outstanding high school program. He has had great success individually as well as collectively with his team," Witherspoon said. "He's a wide-bodied post player with good hands and he's a good student."
McCrea is a 6-6, 225-lb. forward from the Rochester, NY area. He plays for head coach Robert Havrilla at Newark High School. As a junior last season, he averaged 20 points, 15 rebounds and five blocked shots. He was named the Canandaigua Daily Messenger Player of the Year last year and is a two-time All-Greater Rochester selection.
"Javon brings a lot of energy and plays hard," Witherspoon said. "He has long arms, runs well and has good lift. He is part of a very successful high school program and is really working hard in the classroom."
