High School: Came to Buffalo from Columbus, OH, where he was captain of the Hilliard Bradley varsity football team as a senior. A relentless blocker, Hartley started a school-record 30 straight games and was an All-Conference performer as a junior and senior. As a senior, he was named first-team All-State, becoming the first player from Hilliard Bradley to earn that honor. Hartley also received an invite to play in the Ohio North-South All-Star football game, the highest honor for high school football players in the state of Ohio. Off the football field, Hartley holds the school record in the shot put.
