NIL PROGRAM

On July 1, 2021, NCAA rules changed allowing student athletes to monetize their name, image and likeness [NIL]. New York State quickly followed with NIL state law, further enhancing NIL opportunities for New York collegiate student-athletes. These historic changes present an amazing opportunity for University at Buffalo student-athletes to engage with businesses, companies and the local community in mutually beneficial partnerships. June 2025 brought more sweeping changes with the settlement of the House vs. NCAA lawsuit, allowing institutions to provide direct compensation to students through revenue share and institutional NIL opportunities.
UB Athletics, working with campus and SUNY officials, has a comprehensive NIL program to provide guidance and structure to our student-athletes, coaches, staff, donors and fans. We appreciate the support of the UB campus community, the Buffalo and Western New York community, and our extensive alumni and fan base across the country and the world. With your continued commitment to UB Athletics, we can use revenue share funds and NIL opportunities to provide our student-athletes with a world class experience of success on the fields of play and in the classroom.
