
10 Freshmen Join Bulls for Spring Semester

BUFFALO, NY – Among the new players joining the University at Buffalo football team for the spring semester include 10 true freshmen. This group of young men enrolled at UB in January and will benefit from spring practice period.
Of the freshmen joining the team, seven are on the defensive side of the ball, including four linebackers and three edge rushers.
The linebackers include Jack Garbolino, Matthew Heininger, Na'Rod Jarvis and Anwar Witherspoon, Jr.
Garbolino is from New Jersey where he played at The Hun School. He was an All-Conference selection who had 85 tackles, nine tackles for loss and two sacks his senior season. He played with fellow freshmen Marco Cate and Chase Enlow at The Hun School.
Heininger, the younger brother of current UB offensive lineman Alex Heininger, was named the 2025 Class A Co-Defensive Player of the Year following his senior season at Brighton High School near Rochester. He was a first-team All-State selection after helping the Bruins win the 2025 Section V title and being named the game's MVP.
Jarvis hails from Virginia where he graduated from Oscar F. Smith High School. The athletic linebacker helped lead the Tigers to a 2025 Region Championship.
Witherspoon earned All-State honors while playing at St. Thomas Aquinas High School in New Jersey. He had 115 tackles and eight tackles for loss his senior season.
Aiden Anderson, Malachi Ervin and Preston Lunsford will compete at the edge spot.
Anderson is from Florida where he played at Edgewater High School and was a three-year team captain. He had 52 tackles, 19 tackles for loss and 12 sacks his senior season.
Ervin was a first-team All-Conference and All-District selection while playing at Pickerington High School in Ohio. He was the defensive line MVP at the 2025 Under Armour Next Football Camp.
Lunsford also hails from Ohio, graduating from Newark High School. His 17.5 sacks his senior season led all of Ohio Division I high schools. He was named first-team All-Conference and was the Newark Advocate Defensive Player of the Year.
The Bulls added a pair of offensive linemen in Marco Cate and Cam Davis.
Cate played at the Hun School in New Jersey along with fellow freshmen Jack Garbolino and Chase Enlow. He was named first-team All-State along with first-team All-New Jersey Prep.
Davis is a graduate of Newark High School in Ohio where he played with fellow freshman Preston Lunsford. He was a third-team All-Ohio selection as well as an All-Conference pick. He only allowed two sacks his senior season.
Enlow is a third freshmen from The Hun School where he was a standout running back. He averaged 8.7 yards per carry during his senior season. His best season was in 2023 when he was named All-League and All-State after rushing for 1,193 yards and totaling 1,930 all-purpose yards and 25 touchdowns.
The remaining freshmen will join the program in the summer.
