BUFFALO, NY – Quarterback Ta'Quan Roberson and linebacker Mitchell Gonser were named the Mid-American Conference Offensive and Defensive Players of the Week, respectively, the league announced on Monday. Both played key roles in the Bulls' victory over Kent State on Saturday.
Roberson completed 28-of-40 passes for 318 yards and three touchdowns in Buffalo's come-from-behind victory over Kent State. With the Bulls trailing 14-0 late in the half he connected with Nik McMillan on a 38-yard touchdown and then drove the Bulls back down the field for a field goal as time expired in the second quarter. He connected with Chance Morrow on 21-yard touchdown, early in the third quarter, to give the Bulls their first lead of the game. With the Bulls trailing 28-24 with 2:38 left in the game, Roberson marched the team down the field and found Victor Snow for a touchdown with just 1:03 left to win it for the Bulls. He added 10 carries for 63 yards in the game.
Mitchell Gonser had a game-high 11 tackles, a sack and three tackles for loss in the win. He was disruptive the entire game and helped the Bulls erase a 14-0 deficit to defeat the Golden Flashes. In the second quarter, with Kent State at the Buffalo 34-yard line, Gonser had a tackle for loss, followed by a sack to knock the Golden Flashes out of field goal range.
Buffalo, now 2-1 on the season, will host Troy on Saturday at 3:30 pm at UB Stadium.
