
Sperling Named USA Today Offensive Football Player of the Year

BUFFALO, NY – Lamar Sperling, an incoming freshman on the University at Buffalo football team was named the 2022-23 USA TODAY High School Sports Awards Offensive Football Player of the Year, the publication announced on Sunday.
Sperling is coming off the finest season by a running back in Ohio history. As a senior at Archbishop Hoban High School in 2022, he broke the single-season OHSAA record by rushing for 3,984 yards and 59 touchdowns. He rushed for 1,781 yards and 26 touchdowns in six playoff games alone. As a result, Sperling was named 2022 Ohio Mr. Football.
A native of Akron, OH, Sperling was named the winner from a team of twenty-five nominees picked from all 50 states and the District of Columbia. Winners were picked in 31 individual sports. Additionally, nine premier awards were given, including Boys and Girls Athletes of the Year, Boys and Girls Teams of the Year, Boys and Girls Coaches of the Year, Special Olympics Athlete of the Year, and the Courage Award.
The USA TODAY High School Sports Awards is the largest high school athletic recognition program in the country with 14 regional award shows and one national awards program.
