BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo Vice President and Director of Athletics Mark Alnutt has been appointed to the NCAA Division I Council. Responsible for the day-to-day decision-making for Division I, this high-level group consists of athletic directors, athletic administrators, senior woman administrators, faculty athletic representatives and student-athletes.
Alnutt, who was also reappointed to the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee for a second term, will begin his term on the NCAA Division I Council on August 01, 2023 and continue through June 30, 2027.
"I'm extremely honored to be appointed to the NCAA Division I Council," Alnutt said. "It is a privilege to represent the Mid-American Conference and the University at Buffalo as it pertains to critical decision making which will shape all aspects of NCAA Division I membership. In addition, I'm very grateful to serve another term on the NCAA Division I Football Oversight Committee. I look forward to continuing to work with phenomenal and talented people as we adjust to the constantly evolving football landscape that puts the best interest of our various constituents at the forefront."
Alnutt is in his sixth year as athletic director at UB. Under his leadership, the department has experienced tremendous success in competition as well as in the classroom. In addition, through successful fundraising efforts, many of UB's athletic facilities have been transformed.
UB teams have won numerous Mid-American Conference Championships since Alnutt's arrival. Even more impressive is the inclusive culture he has created at UB. Buffalo continues to offer a broad-based program to be inclusive of all the issues that face its student-athletes, athletics staff, campus and the greater Western New York community. In doing so, UB was awarded the MAC's Diversity and Inclusion Award for four straight years between 2018 and 2021.
Buffalo has won the conference's Institutional Sportsmanship Award each of the last two years.
This past spring, UB student-athletes posted a combined 3.115 grade point average, marking the ninth straight semester the Bulls posted a GPA of 3.0 or better.
