Bulls Sweep Weekly MAC Tennis Honors

BUFFALO, NY - The University at Buffalo men's tennis team claimed both Mid-American Conference weekly honors, the league office announced Thursday. Fifth year Simon Wibler earned MAC Singles Player of the Week and the doubles pairing of Aleksandr Kalinin and Daniils Snaiders were named MAC Doubles Team of the Week.
Wibler had a great weekend, going 2-0 in singles action to lead the Bulls to a pair of big wins over MAC leader Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. On Friday, Wibler defeated the Broncos 7-5, 7-5 at second singles and followed that up with a three-set thriller, winning 6-1, 6-7, 10-8 over the Huskies at second singles. He also teamed with Finn Macnamara to clinch the doubles point against NIU, winning 7-6(4) at first doubles. The Vaxjo, Sweden native is now 18-13 on the year in singles action, the most wins by a UB player this season.
Kalinin and Snaiders had a huge weekend for Buffalo, going 2-0 in their matches to lead the Bulls to a pair of big wins over Western Michigan and Northern Illinois. On Friday, they helped the Bulls clinch a crucial doubles point in a tiebreaker 7-6(9) at second doubles and they followed that up with a dominating performance, blanking NIU 6-0 at second doubles on Sunday to help UB secure the important doubles point once again. With their win, Kalinin and Snaiders improved to 5-1 as a pair on the year.
Buffalo returns to action on Saturday, April 8 as they host Binghamton in their final home match of the regular season on Senior Day at 1pm at Miller Tennis Center.
