CHATTANOOGA, TN – John Arceri took seventh place to highlight UB's Sunday action at the Southern Scuffle hosted by UT-Chattanooga.
Arceri dropped his quarterfinal bout to eventual runner-up Josh Edmond of Missouri. However, he stayed alive on the backside with a 3-1 sudden victory over Josh Brown of Cal State Bakersfield. He dropped his next match but was able to rebound with another sudden victory in the seventh-place match to make it to the podium. Arceri faced West Virginia's Jeff Boyd and after the bout was tied 1-1, he got a takedown 36 seconds left on the clock to earn the 3-1 decision.
"We had a very productive tournament," head coach John Stutzman said. "The guys continue to get better and improve."
After winning both of his bouts on Saturday, Derek Spann dropped a close 3-2 decision to Iowa's Cullen Schriever in the quarterfinals. Spann then dropped his first match in the consolation bracket.
Tristan Daugherty also advanced to the quarterfinals, but fell to 2-seed Pat Mckee of Minnesota 9-1. An injury forced him to sit out the rest of Sunday's action.
The Bulls will be back in action on Sunday when they welcome SIU-Edwardsville to Alumni Arena.
