BUFFALO, NY – For the second time this season, University at Buffalo linebacker Khalil Hodge has been named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week, the league announced on Monday.
Hodge had a game-high 19 tackles and added one sack in a 14-13 loss to Northern Illinois on Saturday. He spearheaded a defensive effort that held NIU to a season-low 14 points. The junior linebacker had seven solo stops and assisted on 12 others.
Through seven games, Hodge is already over 100 tackles on the season with 101. The Stockton, CA native leads the nation in tackles per game, averaging 14.4 tackles per contest. He has had 17 or more tackles in four of the seven games this year.
It is the fourth straight week a UB football player has won MAC Player of the Week honors. Kicker Adam Mitcheson was Special Teams Player of the Week on Sept. 25. Running back Emmanuel Reed was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 2. Drew Anderson was named Offensive Player of the Week on Oct. 9. Hodge also won Defensive Player of the Week honors after his 20-tackle performance against Minnesota in the season opener.
The Bulls will next play at Miami (OH) on Saturday.
