
Men's Soccer Collects Third Straight Cleansheet; Bulls Defeat Stony Brook, 3-0

BUFFALO, NY – Behind a season-high nine saves by junior goalkeeper Joseph Kuta, the University at Buffalo men's soccer team (3-0-0, 0-0-0 MAC) earned their third straight cleansheet on Friday morning as they downed the Stony Brook Seawolves 3-0. This marks the first time since 1981 since the Bulls have opened up the season with three straight shutouts and it is their best start to a season since 2005.

How It Happened
- The Seawolves were able to register the first shot of the match in the third minute as they sent a great cross into the box where Eduardo Valle's header just missed the upper corner of the net and out of play.
- In the seventh minute, Daniel Cramarossa whipped in a corner kick that Fox Slotemaker header just wide of the left corner of the net and out of play.
- In the 19th minute, Tommy Fogarty-Cameron gives Braden Scales a great feed but his hard right-footed shot from 18-yards out just missed the right corner.
- The Seawolves had a pair of good chances in the 24th minute as Jarred Dass took a hard shot that was saved by a diving Joseph Kuta to the right corner. 20 seconds later, Eduardo Valle took a cross from Jarred Dass and ripped a shot on frame that Joseph Kuta swallowed up.
- Senior Alec Fisher came up with a huge block in the 36th minute as Thibault Duval had a open shot on goal from the left side but Fisher came in and blocked the ball out of danger.
- The Bulls struck for the first goal of the match in the 40th minute as Ryan Pereira fed Russell Cicerone who sent a great long ball into a streaking Rikard Lindqvist who buried his second career goal into the left corner of the net.
- Rikard Lindqvist had the first shot of the second half in the 50th minute as he ripped a shot from the left side of the net but the Stony Brook keeper scooped up his shot, keeping the score 1-0 in favor of UB.
- The Bulls made the score 2-0 in the 57th minute of play as Russell Cicerone was dragged down in the box to give the Bulls a penalty kick. On the ensuing kick, the nation's leading scorer Russell Cicerone buried the ball into the lower left corner for his sixth on the year.
- Stony Brook had a good chance in the 67th minute as Danny Espinoza's right-footed boot just sailed over the cross bar.
- A minute later, Martieon Watson ripped a shot that Joseph Kuta made a diving stop on, keeping the score 2-0 in favor of the Bulls.
- Joseph Kuta made a brilliant diving stop to his right in the 73rd minute on a hard blast from Steven Ghitis, preserving the cleansheet.
- Joseph Kuta made the two biggest saves of the match in 79th minute as he made a diving stop on Lars Togstad's blast then backed that up with another quick save on Mark Irvine from in tight.
- The Bulls put the game away in the 82nd minute as Steven Stryker fed Russell Cicerone who sent a great pass to Braden Scales who bent in a quick right-footed shot into the left corner of the net for his second of the season.
