
Vinny Mallaro Named MAC East Player Of The Week

BUFFALO, NY – After a huge week at the plate, University at Buffalo junior outfielder Vinny Mallaro was named Mid-American Conference east division Player of the Week, as announced by the league office on Monday afternoon. This is the first time in Mallaro's career he has earned the weekly accolade.
Mallaro finished off his impressive week with a .429 batting average while leading the Bulls to a 2-1 opening MAC weekend over the Toledo Rockets. Mallaro collected a team-high six hits including a pair of home runs and a pair of doubles while scoring four runs and adding a team-best seven RBI's. The righty earned a total of 14 bases and six walks while notching a slugging percentage of 1.000 and an on base percentage of .600 for the week.
In the MAC opening victory over the Rockets on Friday, Mallaro had one of his best games of the young season as he went 4-for-6 with a home run, two doubles and a season-high five RBI's to go along with a pair of runs. Mallaro backed up his 4-for-6 effort going 2-for-4 on Saturday with another home run and two RBI's.
Mallaro is having a career-year at the plate for the Bulls as he is hitting .306 with a team-high four homers, 17 RBI's and ateam-high eight doubles. The junior has a .661 slugging percentage which ranks third in the MAC and his .434 on base percentage ranks sixth in the conference. He has collected four multi-RBI games so far this season and he has currently reached base in a career-best 17 straight games for the Bulls.
UB will return to the diamond on Tuesday afternoon at 2:00 pm as they head to Big 4 foe St. Bonaventure for a doubleheader.
