BUFFALO, NY – After his historic performance against Akron, Jordan Johnson was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Offense Player of the Week, the conference announced on Monday.
Johnson rushed for a school-record 282 yards and two touchdowns in Buffalo's 41-20 win over Akron. He broke a school record that stood since 1991. Johnson only carried the ball 24 times for an 11.8 yards-per-carry average. He had touchdown runs of 61 and 39 yards and had 10 carries of at least 10 yards. Johnson's 282 rushing yards were the most by a MAC player this season and the fifth highest total by any player in the nation.
For the season, Johnson has rushed for 725 yards and four touchdowns. The senior running back has rushed for 1,897 yards over his career and is 103 yards shy of becoming just the seventh player in school history to rush for 2,000 yards.
Johnson is the third UB player to earn MAC Player of the Week honors this season. Quarterback Tyree Jackson and kicker Adam Mitcheson were named Offensive and Special Teams Players of the Week, respectively, following Buffalo's win over Army.
