
Men's Soccer Collects Huge Road Win Over West Virginia, 2-1

MORGANTOWN, WV – The University at Buffalo men's soccer team (9-3-1, 1-1-0 MAC) collected their biggest win of the season on Saturday night on the road at West Virginia as Scott Doney collected his first goal of the season, the game-winner, to give UB the 2-1 win. With the win, the Bulls have collected their most wins (9) since 2008 when they went 12-4-4 overall.

How It Happened
- The Mountaineers opened the action in the 11th minute of play as their first shot of the match ended up in the back of the UB net. Joey Piatczyc took the free kick into the box where Jack Elliott found the ball and scored from six yards out.
- The Bulls responded quickly in the 14th minute as Russell Cicerone crossed a great ball into the box where Tommy Fogarty-Cameron headed home his first career goal.
- In the 25th minute, Joseph Kuta made a huge stop from in tight as he robbed Sebastian Garcia-Herreros to keep the game tied, 1-1.
- Joseph Kuta made another nice stop on the header attempt by Felix Angerer in the 31st minute to prevent the WVU goal.
- The Bulls were able to take the 2-1 lead in the 36th minute as Braden Culver crossed a perfect ball over to Scott Doney who headed home his first of the season as he was left alone at the back post. The assist for Culver was his first of the season.
- In the final minute of the opening half, Joseph Kuta made a nice diving stop on the header by Jack Elliott, preserving the Bulls 2-1 halftime lead.
- The Mountaineers started the second half off quick as they almost knotted the game in the 50th minute but Rushawn Larmond's blast went off the post and was cleared out by the UB defense.
- After a big save by Joseph Kuta, the Bulls had three straight shots. Russell Cicerone and Fox Slotemaker saw shot attempts go wide before Cicerone ripped one on goal that was saved by the WVU keeper.
- Buffalo had back-to-back chances in the 72nd and 73rd minutes as Steven Stryker saw his shot saved before Fox Slotemaker had a header that Jose Santos grabbed out of the air to keep the score 2-1 in favor of the Bulls.
- Jose Santos had his best save of the match in the 78th minute as he made a nice diving stop to his right on Braden Scales' shot after a nifty feed from Russell Cicerone.
- In the 84th minute, Russell Cicerone had a great chance from the right of the keeper but his hard left-footed shot was blocked out of bounds by the WVU keeper.
- The Mountaineers had a golden opportunity to tie the match in the 85th minute but Jack Elliott missed a wide open goal. Joseph Kuta came out to challenge for the loose ball but Elliott made a move to the outside and his right-footed shot missed the right corner of the wide open goal.
- The Buffalo defense held on down the stretch to not allow any dangerous chances and they earned their first MAC win of the season.

- The win gives UB nine wins on the year, their most wins in a season since 2008 when they collected 12 victories.
- With the win, Buffalo has now won two straight matches against the Mountaineers.
- West Virginia held the slim 11-10 edge in shots while UB led the corner kicks battle 4-2.
- Tommy Fogarty-Cameron netted his first career goal.
- With his header goal, Scott Doney notched his first goal of the season. The game-winner was also the second of his career.
- With his eighth assist of the season, Russell Cicerone now has 99th career points for UB.
- With his assist on Scott Doney's goal, Braden Culver notched his first assist of the season.
- Junior Joseph Kuta finished off his ninth win with three saves while his counterpart Jose Santos finished with six in the losing effort.
- Russell Cicerone led all players with five shots, including four on goal, in the win.
- This marks just the third time this season that the West Virginia defense allowed more than one goal against in a match.
