
Matt Brown Added As Men's Soccer Assistant Coach

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo, The State University of New York men's soccer head coach Stu Riddle announced the addition of Matt Brown to his staff as assistant coach for the 2016 season. Brown joins the Bulls after a very successful professional career in England and will oversee the UB goalkeepers.
"To be able to attract someone with the background and quality of Matt is a real coup for the program," said fourth-year head coach Stu Riddle. "The goalkeeping department has been left in very good shape thanks to the efforts over the last three years of Coach Camp and I am positive that Matt will slot into the role seamlessly and that no momentum will be lost."
Brown has spent the last seven seasons as a coach with his last stop coming as the head coach at Bournemouth & Poole College in England from 2013-15. Before Bournemouth & Poole College, he was the Youth Goalkeeper Development coach for the U7-U16's for Sholing FC for three seasons and head coach at Hounsdown High School from 2011-12.
Brown had a very successful playing career professionally in England as he eappeared between the pipes for five teams during his career. The teams he appeared with include Poole Town, Sholing FC, Romsey Town FC, Launceston Town and Eastleigh FC.
The highlight of his career came in 2014 when he helped lead Sholing FC to the Wessex Premier Division Championship as well as their first FA National Vase title. Brown was awarded the FA Vase Most Valuable Player award after earning the cleansheet in his teams 1-0 victory over West Auckland Town at Wembley Stadium.
After graduating from the Southampton FC Academy in 2006, Brown began his professional career in 2007 as he was a trialist for the U18 English National soccer team.
Prior to his professional career, Brown spent seven seasons in the Southampton FC Academy with the likes of Real Madrid's Gareth Bale and Arsenal's Theo Walcott.
Brown takes over a very talented group of goalkeepers in 2016 as the Bulls will return two keepers from their 2015 MAC Championship game squad in juniors Joseph Kuta and Cameron Hogg.
Brown earned his bachelor's degree in physical education from the University College St. Mark & St. John in 2011. He will be pursuing his master's degree at UB. The England native also owns his UFEA B License and an NSCAA Advanced National Diploma.
