BARNET, LONDON - The University at Buffalo, The State University of New York men's soccer team stayed unbeaten, 2-0, on their Tour of England on Tuesday morning as they shut down Barnet FC. The Bulls scored a pair of first half goals and played stingy defense down the stretch to pull out the victory.
"It was a terrific day all around," said head coach Stu Riddle. "The facilities and hospitality from Barnet were first class and we performed exceptionally well to get a big morale boosting victory."
The Bulls got on the board early on in the first half as Ryan Periera settled the ball in the midfield and made a nice pass to a streaking Russell Cicerone who walked in and buried his third goal in the last two games, beating the keeper to the left post.
After the Cicerone marker, Barnet had their lone shot of the opening half bu starting goalkeeper Joseph Kuta was there to make the save after the lone lapse in the defense all afternoon long.
Just moments after the Kuta save, the Bulls jumped on an opportunity and made the score 2-0. Braden Culver started the play down the left sideline and he swung a perfect cross into the box where Scott Doney headed home his second goal of the tour. The header goal by Doney beat the keeper to the left corner and gave the Bulls some serious momentum.
As the second half begun, the Bulls tried to push for their third goal which allowed Barnet to get a shot on frame that Cameron Hogg calmly gobbled up after a diving effort.
The Bulls defense tightened up after the Barnet shot on goal, not allowing another the rest of the way. In the waking minutes of the match, Alec Fisher had a golden opportunity to net his first goal but the Barnet keeper made a huge left hand save to keep the score 2-0.
The Bulls will return to the pitch on Thursday afternoon as they will take on Stoke FC at 2:00 pm local time.
