Leipold Named National Coach of the Year for the Sixth Time

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo, The State University of New York head football coach Lance Leipold had one final piece of hardware to pick up from his days at Wisconsin-Whitewater on Tuesday. Leipold was named the American Football Coaches Association (AFCA) Division III National Coach of the Year for the sixth time in the last eight years at the AFCA Convention in Louisville, KY.
Leipold, who was also presented the award in 2007, 2009, 2010, 2011 and 2013, has now won the award more times than any active coach at any level. He passed the late Joe Paterno, who was a five-time recipient of the award.
Leipold led Wisconsin-Whitewater to a 15-0 record, a seventh Wisconsin Intercollegiate Athletic Conference championship and a sixth NCAA Division III national title in 2014. He posted an eight-year record of 109-6 at Whitewater. The Warhawks recorded their fifth 15-0 season under Leipold in 2014.
Leipold became the fastest coach in NCAA history to win 100 games, achieving the mark in only 106 games. He led the Warhawks on a 46-game winning streak from 2009 until the second game of 2012, which is the fifth longest streak in NCAA football history, in any division. Wisconsin-Whitewater is currently on a 32-game win streak.
Leipold was named the 25th head coach of the University at Buffalo football program on December 1, 2014.
