BOWLING GREEN, OH - The State University of New York, Buffalo men's soccer team (3-8-2, 0-0-2 MAC) picked up their second straight tie in conference action on Saturday night on the road at Bowling Green, 1-1. With the tie, UB is now 3-8-2 overall and 0-0-2 in the MAC.
"I was pleased with the overall performance against a very good side," said head coach Stu Riddle. "Outside of a 15 minute spell in the first half, I felt like we had a good deal of quality possession and lots of top scoring opportunities. I just reminded the lads that we are still unbeaten in the MAC and everyone is excited to get back to the training ground on Monday."
The Falcons jumped out to the early 1-0 lead following an own goal off the head of a UB defender that beat Waleed Cassis in the 19th minute. However, the Bulls did not waste much time getting back to even with the Falcons.
Just over four minutes later, Marcus Hanson took a pass from Daniel Cramarossa and put a perfect cross into the box where Sean Young was able to beat the keeper in the low left corner of the net. The goal for Young was the first of his UB career and the assist for Cramarossa was his first career helper.
The Bulls came out strong in the second half as Ryan Pereira had his shot saved by the Falcons keeper just five minutes in. Then, in the 71st minute, Russell Cicerone had a shot that was handled by the keeper and freshman David Enstrom had a strong header saved off a perfect corner kick by Cicerone.
With six minutes remaining in regulation, sophomore Steven Stryker forced a turnover by the Falcons keeper and had a wide open net but his sharp angled shot just missed the net to the left. Stryker's chances was the last opportunity for the Bulls to earn the win in regulation as the teams headed to overtime knotted at one.
The first overtime period was dominated by the Bulls as they recorded four shots compared to the Falcons one shot. Young had a chance saved and Hanson saw one go just high on back-to-back possessions for the Bulls in the 95th minute.
The two sides went back-and-forth in the final 10 minutes as neither were able to break through with the winning marker. Both teams had two shots in the second overtime period.
For the game, UB held the 20-16 advantage in shots and both teams had three corner kicks on the night. Pereira, Cicerone and Young each had a team-best four shots for the game while Hanson also chipped in with two shots.
In goal, Cassis was asked to make only two saves on the night while his counterpart Ryan Heuton finished with five saves in the draw.
UB will return to the pitch on Tuesday, October 21 as they play host to Big Four rival St. Bonaventure at 7:00 pm at UB Stadium.
