BUFFALO, NY - Freshman Tyler Mautner was named the Mid-American Conference's East Division player of the week Tuesday afternoon, marking the first time in his career that he has earned a weekly recognition. It also marks the eighth time this season that a Buffalo baseball player has been honored, a new high water mark for the program.
Mautner was the team's hottest bat over a five-game week, batting .438 (7-16) with five runs scored, and seven more runs batted in. He was especially effective in the conference's final weekend, getting all seven of his hits to lead the Bulls to a series victory over Bowling Green. He had three hits in five at bat on Thursday, driving in four runs in a 10-4 win. He then was a deciding factor in a thrilling 4-3 win on Friday, again going 5-3 with a double and two runs scored. He capped the series with two runs batted in and a walk in the series finale.
The team will be back in action Wednesday, facing Toledo in the MAC tournament. First pitch is scheduled for 4 pm. Live audio will be available through BuffaloBulls.com.
