BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo women's swimmer Brittney Kuras has been named the Mid-American Conference's Female Scholar-Athlete of the Week. The league announced its awards from its Cleveland headquarters.
Kuras, a junior psychology major with a 3.545 grade point average, repeated her 2012 success by defending her league titles in all three of her individual races and was part of three winning relays at the MAC Women's Swimming and Diving Championships, hosted last weekend by the University at Buffalo. Kuras opened the meet with a win in the 200-yard individual medley as she broke the MAC, MAC meet, UB and pool records at 1:59.17. Kuras next defended her title in the 200-yard freestyle as the Bulls went one-two in the championship final where she established an NCAA B qualifying time of 1:47.83 to win the race. She also finished first in the 100-yard freestyle as she established a new MAC meet and pool record with her victory in 48.89 seconds, earning another NCAA B standard. She was also part of UB's victorious 200-, 400- and 800-yard freestyle relays for the three-day meet.
The MAC Scholar Athlete of the Week honor is presented to a MAC male and female student-athlete who has a cumulative grade point average of 3.0 or better and performs well during the week's competition. The winners are selected by a group of the conference's faculty athletic representatives.
