BUFFALO, NY - For his efforts in helping the Bulls to three wins in the week of March 11-17, junior outfielder Jimmy Topps of the UB baseball team was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Player of the Week. It is the first-year transfer's first career weekly honor, and the third for the Bulls this season.
Topps was a tough out all week for the UB offense, batting .615 (8-13) over six games during the week. On Wednesday, he went 2-2 with a walk against a Vanderbilt team that came into the day ranked second in the nation.
He then helped the Bulls to a doubleheader sweep with two singles and a triple, scoring all three times, in a win over Oakland. He then capped the day with a single and stolen base, along with a perfectly executed suicide squeeze to drive in a run in a win over Dayton. On Sunday, he ended his week with another perfect day, going 2-2 with an RBI, another walk and two more stolen bases in a win over Dayton.
The Bulls are back in action tomorrow afternoon, opening the MAC season with three games against the Central Michigan Chippewas. The series has been moved to the campus of Monroe Community College due to weather. First pitch Friday is scheduled for 3 pm.
