KALAMAZOO, MI - The Buffalo men's soccer team suffered a 4-0 loss at Western Michigan Saturday afternoon. The loss moves UB's record to 1-8-3 this season, and 0-2 in the Mid-American Conference. In head coach Stu Riddle's first game coaching against his former squad, the Broncos scored once in the first half before tallying three more in the final 45 minutes.
Western Michigan earned a 22-5 advantage in shots and an 8-0 advantage in corner kicks for homecoming weekend, and would score the eventual game-winning goal with just 30 seconds remaining in the first half. Two more goals would come within 48 seconds of each other, in the 74th and 75th minutes, and the final goal would come on a penalty kick in the 86th minute.
The UB offense would put all five of its shots on goal for the game, coming from five different players. Goalie Waleed Cassis made four saves in the loss.
The team has a pivotal week ahead, starting Tuesday night with a home match against Hartwick. Following the 7 pm match, the team will host nationally ranked Akron on Friday at 7:30 pm.
