OXFORD, OH – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams finished their weekend trip to Ohio by splitting meets against Mid-American Conference rival Miami (OH) at the Corwin Nixon Natatorium on Sunday. The UB men knocked off the host RedHawks, 175-124, while the UB women fell 177-120.
In the women's meet, Brittney Kuras swept all three of her individual events for the second time over the weekend. Kuras took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:50.24 and then followed with a victory in the 100-yard freestyle in 50.60. She later won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:05.19.
Jessica Powers won both distance freestyle events for the UB women (5-2, 2-1 MAC). She won the 1,650-yard freestyle in 17:11.74 and later won the 500-yard freestyle in 5:03.44.
Mallory Morrell won the women's 50-yard freestyle in 23.28.
For the UB men, Matt Schwippert was a double winner as he swept both backstroke races. Schwippert won the 100-yard backstroke in 51.34 and later came back for a victory in the 200-yard backstroke in 1:51.60.
Taking single wins for the UB men (3-2, 1-0 MAC) were Bill Caffee in the 1,650-yard freestyle (16:09.47), Josh Meints in the 100-yard breaststroke (57.94), Eric Culver in the 200-yard butterfly (1:52.83), Mike Dugan in the 50-yard freestyle (20.86), Cory Zorsch in the 100-yard butterfly (49.78) and Matt Hogan in the 200-yard individual medley (1:54.24).
The Bulls also earned first-place finishes in all four relay events. The UB men won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:32.57 and followed with a victory in the 200-yard freestyle relay in 1:23.79. The UB women won the 200-yard medley relay in 1:47.39 and took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:36.03.
"I am pleased with the results today," said head coach Andy Bashor. "It's been a long three days of travel and we responded well. Of course the women would have rather won but Miami is a very good and experienced team. For the men, it was their first MAC dual meet of the season and the excitement showed."
Both squads host Eastern Michigan in a MAC showdown on Saturday, January 26 at 1:00 pm at Alumni Arena Natatorium.
