Bulls Drop Sunday Afternoon Match to Siena

BUFFALO, NY - In a competitive rematch of what was among Buffalo's best wins of 2011, all it took was one well-placed shot to send the Bulls to its second straight loss. The Siena Saints (2-1) took a late first-half score and carried it to a 1-0 victory Sunday afternoon at UB Stadium.
After beating the Saints 2-1 on the road last season, and holding off a late-game rally playing a man down, the Bulls expected to face a motivated team and got just that, with Siena taking twice as many shots and out-cornering the Bulls 3-1 in the first half. Despite the pressure, it was a seemingly innocent attempt on net that would provide the eventual game-winning score. Siena's Matt Hemsley left a ball for Sindre Ek around 20 yards out on the right side, and Ek would curl a well-crafted shot into the lower left corner of the Buffalo net to beat goalie Jon Viscosi.
Despite the score, Viscosi would make sure the Saints would find no more luck on offense, making a terrific double save in the game to give the offense a chance. That chance would not come though, despite a trio of opportunities from Lukas Fedler on corner kick set plays, and two chances from Marek Albert that were denied by Siena's 6-foot-7-inch goalkeeper Damian Liesemann.
For the game, Siena held a 16-12 advantage in shots but both teams put five on goal. Viscosi made four saves in the game and Albert led the offense with four shots (two on frame).
"I thought we did enough to win. We had one mistake which cause the goal, we need to play more consistent," head coach David Hesch. "Our offense needs to create and finish our chances. We have out-shot almost every team and have not scored much at all."
The team will close out its season-opening four-game home stand next Friday against Detroit. First kick is set for 7 pm at UB Stadium.
