
Pollock and Murphy Named to 2012 NCAA Mideast Region Teams

BUFFALO, NY - Postseason honors continue to roll in for the 2012 Buffalo baseball team. Just a week after Jason Kanzler earned the school's first ever Gold Glove award, the team placed two players on the 2012 ABCA/Rawlings NCAA Mideast Region Teams. Junior outfielder Matt Pollock earned first team honors, while recent Colorado Rockies draftee Tom Murphy was named to the regional second team.
Tom Murphy and Matt Pollock were first-team All-MAC honorees during the regular season after the duo set numerous program records and practically rewrote their own personal highs in every offensive category. Pollock set the record for total bases in a single season (with 141) and led the team in multi-hit games (25), batting average (.357), slugging percentage (.638), on-base percentage (.447), runs scored (56), and hits (79).
Murphy set program records for most games started (56), most home runs (13) and runs batted in (51). He also led the team with 20 doubles and 32 walks. He leaves Buffalo as its career leader in slugging percentage (.588), passing Ron Couche's record from the 1978-79 season
The Mid-American Conference had the most representatives on the All-Mideast Region First and Second Teams, fi nishing with nineselections. The Big Ten had the second-most selections with seven, the Atlantic 10 earned three spots, the Big East and the HorizonLeague each placed a pair of players on the squad and the Missouri Valley Conference received one selection.
The All-American teams are selected by a committee made up of each region's chairman. Monmouth head coach Dean Ehehalt representedthe East Region while also chairing the committee and was joined by Oregon head coach George Horton (West), MiddleTennessee State head coach Steve Peterson (South Central), Vanderbilt head coach Tim Corbin (South), UMass head coach MikeStone (Northeast), Indiana State head coach Rick Heller (Midwest), Virginia head coach Brian O'Connor (Atlantic) and Carbone (Mideast)in Omaha, Neb. last week before the start of the 2012 NCAA Men's College World Series.
