Bobcats Cap Sweep with 4-1 Win

ATHENS, OH - The Buffalo baseball team (10-26, 3-11 MAC) was held to its lowest hit total of the season Sunday afternoon (with four total), scraping only a lone run in a 4-1 loss to the Ohio Bobcats (22-17,11-4 MAC).
After Matt Pollock led off the game with a single, the UB offense was shut down by Ohio starter Seth Streich, who held the Bulls hitless until the seventh inning. In the seventh, a walk and an error put Alex Baldock on second and Andy Smietana on first with one out. An infield single by Mike Scarcello loaded up the bases, and Jon Mestas punched a single through the right side of the infield to score Baldock for Buffalo's lone run of the game.
The offense could not support a strong outing from the Buffalo pitching staff, starting with Mike Burke, who started his first Mid-American Conference game of the season. After a rocky start on Tuesday, Burke rebounded with six innings of solid work, limiting Ohio to just six hits. The sophomore was the hard-luck loser though after allowing four runs (one earned) on the day despite seven strikeouts and just a pair of walks. River McWilliams threw two innings out of the bullpen, allowing no hits and just one walk in relief.
Buffalo will have a bit of a break, with no upcoming mid-week games on the schedule this week. Next up will be another conference weekend series, with the Bulls welcoming in the Miami (OH) Redhawks. First pitch at Amherst Audubon Field this Friday will be at 3 pm.
