AUBURN, AL – University at Buffalo junior Brittney Kuras completed her three-day run at the NCAA Division I Women's Swimming and Diving Championships at the James E. Martin Aquatics Center on Saturday.
Swimming in the 100-yard freestyle Kuras finished 32nd overall out of 59 finishers in 49.15. The time was shy of her 48.80 that she set for the UB record when she won the event at the Mid-American Conference Championships last month.
Kuras is UB's first women's swimmer invited for the national competition. Meili Carpenter competed in the diving portion of National Championships in 2009, 2010 and 2011. Kuras lowered her UB records in Thursday's 200-yard individual medley with her 1:59.67 clocking, finishing 35th overall, and the 200-yard freestyle in 1:45.87 on Friday, placing 24th.
"Brittney had another great day just missing a best time," said head coach Andy Bashor. "We are very proud of her. It was an awesome experience for her and it will give her confidence for going into next year. Now she will know what to expect and how to handle this caliber of meet. Hopefully we will have more women qualify for next year's meet."
