BUFFALO, NY - Center defender Jake Jacobs was named the freshman of the year and three other Bulls were named to the All-Big Four team, as announced today by Western New York Soccer News. Seniors Matthew Chereson and Maksym Kowal and junior Richard Craven were named to the 11-man team.
Jacobs started in the team's first 11 games of the season before missing the final six games with an injury. A vocal member of the team's defense, Jake also took four shots for the season.
Chereson recovered from a preseason injury to work his way back into the starting lineup, providing a major attitude change as a defender and defensive midfielder. He played in 14 games and made 13 starts for the team, taking three shots for the season. His classmate Kowal joined Craven as the team's leader in goals (with four apiece) and assists (two apiece). Kowal led the team with 37 shots for the season and scored the game-winning goal for the team on three separate occasions. Craven's numbers were all career highs for the junior, who saw time on the front line of the attack as well as in the midfield. He will come into his 2013 senior season as the team's top returning scorer.
