
Awards Handed Out at Annual Football Banquet

BUFFALO, NY – The University at Buffalo football team held its annual Senior Recognition and Awards Banquet at the Millennium Hotel on Sunday afternoon. Head Coach Jeff Quinn and his staff handed out end of the year awards and honors.
Khalil Mack was named the team's Overall MVP after his standout season at linebacker. The junior All-MAC First Team selection led the Bulls in tackles with 94. He led the MAC in tackles for loss with 21 and ranked fifth in the conference with eight sacks. He also ranked second in the MAC with four forced fumbles. Mack already holds the school record for career tackles for loss (55) and forced fumbles in a career (11). Mack was also named the team's Defensive MVP.
The Offensive MVP award went to Alex Neutz. The junior wide receiver tied for the MAC lead with 11 receiving touchdowns, ranked second in the MAC in receiving yards per game (92.3) and ranked seventh in the conference in receptions per game (5.9). With 1,015 yards in 2012, Neutz became just the third player in school history to eclipse 1,000 receiving yards in a single season – joining Naaman Roosevelt and Drew Haddad.
Okoye Houston was named the Special Teams MVP after being a standout performer on all facets of special teams. Houston returned kicks, covered kickoffs as well as playing a key role in punt coverage and return. Houston had a team-high 13 kick returns for 248 yards.
The Newcomer of the Year Award went to Devin Campbell. The true freshman running back rushed for 502 yards and two touchdowns on the season. He had three 100-yard games on the year, including a career-high 160 yards and a score at Ohio. The Youngstown, OH native also ranked third on the team in receiving with 21 receptions for 176 yards and a touchdown.
Mack, Neutz, Branden Oliver and Steven Means earned the Captains Leadership Award.
