Bulls Compete At Arizona Diving Invitational

TUCSON, AZ – The University at Buffalo sent three athletes to the Arizona Diving Invite which concluded over the weekend at the Hillenbrand Aquatic Center. Men's divers Shawn Hoffman and Chris Iafrati competed in the one- and three-meter events while women's diver Ava Giachino competed in the platform event as well as both springboard competitions.
Giachino finished eighth among 23 entrants in the platform event. Giachino scored a five-dive total of 206.30 points. Earlier in the meet, Giachino reached the consolation finals of both springboard events. She finished second in the one-meter consolation at 262.50 points, a total of 8.2 points behind consolation champion Aubrey Bush of New Mexico. On the three-meter board, Giachino placed fourth in the consolation round with a six-dive total of 264.70 points.
In the men's events, Hoffman and Iafrati reached the consolation round of the three-meter competition. In the consolation round, Hoffman finished fourth with 296.55 points for six dives while Iafrati was fifth at 292.15 points. Hoffman also finished second in the one-meter consolation with 295.00 points as Stanford's Taylor Sishc totaled 321.45 to take the consolation crown. Iafrati was unable to advance past the first round in the event as he scored 221.25 points for 21st place among the 26 entrants as the top 16 divers advanced to the consolation and championship rounds.
"Overall the first day was a challenge and after they settled down as to being outside and dealing with the sun we did very well," said UB diving coach Karla Helder. "Now, as we move to Akron, we will take the lessons with us and work those into that invite."
UB's swimmers and divers next compete at the University of Akron's Zippy Invite starting November 30.
