Cortney Lester Named MAC East Defensive Player of the Week

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo cornerback Cortney Lester was named the Mid-American Conference East Division Defensive Player of the Week on Monday after his record performance on Saturday.
Lester became the first player in Buffalo's Division I-A era to record three interceptions in a game when he picked off Alex Carder three times in Buffalo's 29-24 win over Western Michigan on Saturday.
His first interception came in the first quarter with the Broncos at the Buffalo 8-yard line. Lester picked off Carder's pass at the goal line to thwart Western's chance to tie the game. He returned his second interception to the Western Michigan 27-yard line, setting up Patrick Clarke with a go-ahead field goal to put the Bulls ahead 23-21 in the third quarter. His final interception came with Western Michigan trailing 29-24 and 1:23 remaining in the game. Lester picked off Carder again at the Broncos 33-yard line to seal the win for Buffalo.
The sophomore cornerback added three tackles (two solo) and a pass breakup to go along with his three picks.
Lester is now tied for the MAC lead with four interceptions on the season.
He is the fifth UB player to earn MAC Player of the Week honors.
