
Bulls Defeat Bearcats To Complete Weekend Swim Sweep

BINGHAMTON, NY – The University at Buffalo men's and women's swimming and diving teams capped off a successful weekend with a pair of victories over host Binghamton on Saturday afternoon. The UB men (4-0) captured a 130-110 win over the Bearcats while the UB women (4-2) defeated the Bearcats, 155-85.
In the women's meet, UB won 11 events with Brittney Kuras taking a pair of races. Kuras won the 200-yard individual medley in 2:07.16 and then followed with a victory in the 500-yard freestyle in 5:01.59. It was the first time this season that Kuras had competed in the 500-yard race.
The UB women swept the remaining distance freestyle events as Emma Miller posted a season best to win the 1,000-yard freestyle in 10:35.29 while freshman Spencer Rodriguez took the 200-yard freestyle in 1:57.69. The Bulls also claimed the sprint freestyle races as Mallory Morrell won the 50-yard event in 23.97 and Melissa Murphy won the 100-yard race in 53.59.
Dani Adank won the women's 200-yard butterfly in 2:09.21 with Melissa Trail taking the 200-yard backstroke in 2:09.76. On the diving boards, the Bulls claimed both competitions with Ava Giachino winning the one-meter event with 263.03 points and freshman Rachel Eckert setting a season best to win the three-meter event with 260.70 points.
UB's 400-yard medley relay team was also victorious as the foursome of Karly Moore, Brynn Marecki, Adank and Morrell won in 3:59.03.
The UB men won eight of the first 11 events before exhibitioning the final two races as the Bulls had clinched enough points to remain undefeated. Freshman Colin McAllister swept the distance freestyle races on Saturday. McAllister sliced more than a second off his 1,000-yard freestyle time to win the race in 9:46.17. He later won the 500-yard freestyle in 4:47.85.
Other men's individual winners included Matt Hogan in the 200-yard individual medley (1:57.21), Cory Zorsch in the 200-yard butterfly (1:58.28), Mike Dugan in the 100-yard freestyle (46.90), Matt Schwippert in the 200-yard backstroke (1:52.70) and Colin Patrican on the one-meter diving board (319.05). The 400-yard medley relay team of Phil Aronica, Josh Meints, Zorsch and Ryan Smrekar also claimed a win in 3:29.57.
The Bulls return home to Alumni Arena Natatorium for the final time in the regular season next weekend. The women will host Bowling Green while the men will entertain Miami (OH) in Mid-American Conference matchups beginning at 2:00 pm.
