Tom Murphy Joins USA Collegiate National Team

BUFFALO, NY - Fresh off an exciting performance to lead his New England Collegiate Baseball all-star squad to victory over Team USA, sophomore catcher Tom Murphy was invited to join the USA national collegiate team. He is the first player in Buffalo baseball history to earn a national team spot and becomes the second University at Buffalo athlete to have a chance to represent a national team this summer, joining Javon McCrea of the men's basketball team.
On Monday, June 27, Murphy's towering home run in the second inning helped lead his all-star team to an upset win. Murphy will now join forces with a squad of college players from across the country in time for an exhibition game against the under-18 national team tonight and then an upcoming five-game series against Japan July 3-8.
The defending Mid-American Conference player of the year, Murphy will join fellow MAC player David Lyon (Catcher, Kent State) and Kent State head coach Scott Stricklin, who serves as an assistant for the national squad.
Murphy is expected to be ready for tonight's game of the Prospect Classic, to be played at the USA National Training Complex in Cary, NC at 7:05 p.m. Live scoring and video streaming will be available on USABaseball.com and fans hoping to see the team on TV can see the game on a one-day tape-delayed broadcast July 3 on MLB Network starting at noon ET.
