TUCSON, AZ – University at Buffalo divers Colin Patrican and Ava Giachino competed this weekend at the University of Arizona's Wildcat Diving Invite. Competition consisted of men's and women's one- and three-meter springboard and platform diving.
On Friday, Patrican was one of 16 individuals to move beyond the first round as he placed 15th of 29 on the one-meter board. Patrican scored 261.40 points in six dives to move into the consolation round where he finished eighth with a six-dive total of 237.55. Giachino competed in the three-meter event and placed 17th of 51 entrants with a six-dive total of 238.75.
On Saturday, Giachino competed in the one-meter competition where she finished 19th among 53 divers with a six-dive total of 225.95. Patrican finished 21st of 29 on the three-meter board with a six-dive total of 257.10.
The meet concluded on Sunday with Giachino turning in an 11th-place performance in the platform diving competition. Giachino completed her five-dive program with 191.95 points.
Following Sunday's competition, UB diving coach Karla Helder commented on the weekend. "Ava did very well today, just a slight miss on a back 1.5 somersault and that would have placed her top eight," said Helder.
Summing up the weekend, Helder said, "Essentially this meet is the PAC 12 minus a couple of smaller schools, so I am very pleased with most of the lists thrown by Ava and Colin this weekend. We do have some entry work that will be essential for great outcomes in Akron in December. This break is a welcome relief, so refocus, relax and rededicate to finish strong this first part of our year. While I have been attending to these two, new dives and great practices have been happening in Alumni Arena. We can't wait to get home and see what the freshmen are bringing to the table."
The Bulls finish the first half of the season at the University of Akron's Zippy Invite, December 2-4.
