Fetterman and Kaartoluoma Named to Men's Soccer Academic All-MAC Squad

BUFFALO, NY – University at Buffalo men's soccer players Nick Fetterman and Juha Kaartoluoma have been named to the Academic All-Mid-American Conference team. The league announced the 11-member team this morning.
Fetterman, a senior civil engineering major with a 3.654 grade point average, was UB's starting goalkeeper for 2010, making 12 starts in UB's 18 contests. He recorded two shutouts in 2010, the second on October 31 as the Bulls downed Florida Atlantic, 1-0, to clinch a spot in the MAC Tournament and ended the season with a 2.17 goals against average. Fetterman collected 40 saves in 2010 with a season high six coming against Penn State at Ohio State's Bert and Iris Wolstein Classic in the opening contest of the year. He also had five saves in a match three times, including in a 1-0 shutout of Hartwick. Earlier this season Fetterman was named to the ESPN Academic All-District Second Team.
Kaartoluoma, a senior business major with a 3.580 grade point average, played in 15 matches, starting 10 at forward. He finished the 2010 campaign as UB's second leading scorer with three goals and six points. Kaartoluoma scored UB's game-winning goal in a 2-0 win at Cleveland State on October 11 and also scored in a 3-2 win over Robert Morris on September 12. Like Fetterman, Kaartoluoma was also selected to the ESPN Academic All-District Second Team.
The Bulls finished the 2010 season with a 7-10-1 record, reaching the MAC Tournament as the fourth seed with a 3-3-0 league mark.
To be nominated, a student-athlete must have at least a 3.20 cumulative GPA and have participated in at least 50 percent of the contests for that particular sport. First-year students and junior college transfers in their first year of residence are not eligible for the award. Outstanding academic and athletic accomplishments from the current season only are considered. The Academic All-MAC team is voted on by the league's faculty athletic representatives.
