Bulls Swept by Le Moyne in Pair of Pitching Duel Contests

SYRACUSE, NY – In a midweek doubleheader on Wednesday afternoon at Dick Rockwell Field, the University at Buffalo baseball team was swept by Le Moyne, 2-0 and 2-1, respectively. In a pair of pitching duel games, the Bulls and Dolphins recorded only five total runs off 16 total hits. For the day, the two pitching staffs combined for 20 strikeouts in the pair of seven-inning matchups.
In game one, the Bulls were held scoreless off a season-low three hits in seven innings. The Dolphins captured the victory off single runs in the bottom of the second and fifth innings for the 2-0 victory.
Starter Jeff Thompson (2-1) struck out a season-high five batters in 7.0 innings of work.
In the nightcap, Buffalo tied its season-low hit total from game one of three hits but did manage to score a run.
Le Moyne captured a 2-0 lead in the bottom of the third off a two-RBI single by shortstop Matt Marra. Off a single by senior Bobby Pizzuto, Buffalo pulled within a run in the top of the sixth, 2-1, driving in junior left fielder David Neff.
In 5.2 innings of work, starter Mike Klaus (1-1) struck out three batters.
The Bulls (18-22, 4-11 MAC) will continue on the road as they travel to Akron for a weekend conference series beginning on Friday, April 30 with the first pitch at 3:00 pm.
